Why Everyone Over 50 Should be Using Facebook

Historically, we have received our news and information through traditional forms of media – newspapers, radios and television. As the world shifts to a digital era, more and more readers and consumers are shifting their focus to online sources to obtain timely, relevant information. But for our seniors and those over 50, social media can be an incredible tool. Its truly so much more then just an information source.

Facebook gives its users the opportunity to express their opinions about anything. By following along with businesses Facebook Pages, friends and family members, users can engage directly with companies and other users. Now, with the few clicks of the keys, one can comment directly below posts that their favorite businesses, friends and family members are creating. Voices can be heard. Opinions are easily disseminated. And you can easily share these opinions with others. Facebook has, essentially, created a voice for everyone.

Facebook is also a great way to share advice with others. Found a new recipe that lowers cholesterol or high blood pressure? Share. How about travel tips for single seniors over 65? Share. With the click of a button, anyone can share this information to their own personal Facebook page or tag friends.

Social media is a great way to keep up with growing families. It’s easy to check out what your Grandkids are up to as Facebook provides the ability to share family updates, pictures of your kids and Grandkids with others. It’s a wonderful tool that allows you to keep up with everything important in your life in an easy and convenient format.

Ageing may create loneliness. Facebook actually bridges this gap. Facebook and other social media forms can allow seniors and others to easily connect with those in their communities. Facebook can renew old friendships and create new ones. It’s truly an important tool for our men and women over 60 and of all age brackets.
